Great Song - “The Prisoner” by Adam Crossley

March 9th, 2007 by nekkid

I was watching an episode of Criminal Intent from last year and heard this hauntingly beautiful, chilling song in the opening scene and immediately had to find out what it was! I tried searching by the lyrics, but that didn’t work, so i searched by the episode title, (Blasters,) and ended up at IMDB where they were nice enough to write the following: “Trivia: The song at the beginning of this episode is “Prisoner” by Adam Crossley.” Apparently, many people had searched for this song when the episode first aired. I found Adam’s MySpace page and listened to that song like 5 times, as well as the other songs, all beautiful ballads. (”Fire Escape” should be on the radio!)
“The Prisoner” starts with moody, heart-wrenching piano, and his voice comes in, sounding remarkably like Sting, strong and clear yet tender with a gorgeous reverb. If i close my eyes, i can imagine sitting in a dark concert hall watching him on stage, all alone at the piano, with tears in my eyes. It’s an odd song in the way it was written, with it’s sparse, cryptic, repeating lyrics, but it is also incredibly brilliant! It definitely paints a picture, like a scene from a movie. It’s really ingenious, actually, because it creates a total package of something truly unique and dramatic. How did he even come up with the story for these lyrics? Had he been a prisoner, or was he inspired by something he saw or read, or does he just have a creative imagination? Whatever the case, i am inspired.
Here are the lyrics:

Prisoner writes, with out lights, half a mile underground
He’s won the hearts of the murderous thieves he can’t see, that surround
And the rain cries for him
And the chains bind to him
Like they’ll never see him again
Like they’ll never know him again
Like they’ll never hold him again
Hold him again, Love him, love him again they say
take me home….

Somebody says I could sure use some water
It’s been so long
Prisoner replies, to quench our thirst, how about a song.

    Hello, there:

Like many others obviously, I searched like crazy to find the author of this song. When I went to imdb, they had nothing. Maybe they added the information as a result of requests. I even did something I would never do: sent an e-mail via the nbc.com web site to viewer relations and asked them to forward the e-mail to the music producer of LO:CI. E-mails like that go into the void. In a world w/any intelligence, someone would respond. If the viewer is taking the time to inquire, then that’s something worth keeping on board. Idiots! Now about six months later, I find the song. I don’t know what the union rules are, but it really sucks that a multi-billion dollar company like GE (NBC) can purchase single-use rights to an artists’ work, use it forever and NEVER credit the artist. I will certainly buy Crossley’s album when released. Ironically, if he had titled the song, TAKE ME HOME, people would have been able to find it. But he’s the artist, so it’s his prerogative. If anyone has an e-mail for him, that would be nice, to admirers could tell him this and all of the above. Scooge.
