Presidential Mistakes

March 31st, 2007 by nekkid

I just watched the program, “The Final Report: Bombing Over Lockerbie” on the National Geographic Channel, all about Pan American flight 103 exploding and crashing into Lockerbie, Scotland in December 1988. It killed 270 people, including 189 Americans. Watching the show, i realized something disturbing regarding Ronald Reagan, and how it relates to today.
In 1986, a bomb exploded in a West Berlin dance club killing 3 people, including 2 American soldiers. The club was known to be frequented by American soldiers. It was determined that it was a terrorist attack by a group from Libya. I do not know why the attack happened.
In response to this attack, (out of revenge,) Ronald Reagan ordered the bombing of the city of Tripoli, Libya, and the residence of Muammar al-Gaddafi. (Qaddafi) This attack killed the 2 year old daughter of the Libyan leader, as well as about 100 other Libyan citizens. In response to this, (out of revenge,) it is believed that Qaddafi ordered the bombing of the American flight.
So, looking at this through unbiased eyes, it appears that Ronald Reagan is just as much to blame as anybody for this tragic disaster. Forgetting the all important truth and motherly phrase “2 wrongs do not make a right,” he made a bad decision. For the lives of 2 Americans, 101 Libyans were killed. For their lives, 189 Americans (and 81 others) were killed. This means that 371 human lives would have been spared had Reagan not decided to get revenge for the bomb in the dance club. Yes, that attack started it all, and should also not have happened, obviously. However, that attack cannot be blamed on a president. The aftermath can be. They both are acts of murder, and they led to a 3rd act of murder.
Similarly, we have a president today making similar decisions for similar reasons, (as well as other, equally unwise reasons.) And, as we payed a high price for a presidential mistake in the past, we will pay again in the future for the ones being made today.
It is time for America to become a country of wisdom, not just of power. We must be very, very careful in the future who we elect President. We cannot afford another Dubya, and apparently, we also cannot afford another Reagan. Either that, or we need to require all future Presidents to promise not to make such dumb mistakes. There are much smarter ways to deal with terrorism. Revenge is very dangerous, and we need to be careful that we’re not sinking to the level of extremists. I’m not saying that the only reason for the “war” is revenge, but it obviously played a part, even if it was only a cover for other motives.

Planet Earth, & Morcheeba “Wonders Never Cease” Commercial

March 26th, 2007 by nekkid

planet-earth.jpg
Are you watching Planet Earth? I have seen the first 3 parts, and it is the most breathtakingly beautiful nature program EVER! Just beautiful, gorgeous, phenomenal, moving, stirring!!! I love it! I grew up watching nature programs, and spent hours and days and weeks pouring through National Geographic magazines, but in my adult life, i have gotten out of that. Remember Wild Kingdom? Oh man, that was my favorite! This program reminds me, well, of who i used to be. A curious explorer.

And for those who were curious about the song that was featured in the Discovery Channel commercial in the second episode, it is “Wonders Never Cease” by Morcheeba. (Paul’s phone to the rescue again!)

Royksopp

That is their name. They have toured with Moby. They are Torbjörn Brundtland and Svein Berge. I don’t know where their names come from, but they are based in the UK.

This is another one i discovered by watching Law & Order, though i don’t actually remember which show i was watching when i heard the song “What Else Is There?” featuring Karen Dreijer on vocals, (who is from Sweden and apparently sings in 2 bands, The Knife and Honey Is Cool.)

Paul’s phone has this awesome feature that identifies songs. Any time you hear a song that you don’t know, his phone can listen to it and then tell you the name of the song! It has come in handy in many situations!!! It doesn’t work 100% of the time because sometimes the song is too obscure to be in the database, but it worked this time.

This song immediately caught my attention not only because of its stunning sound, but also because for a brief moment i actually thought it was Bjork singing! Once i discovered what it was, i went to their MySpace page and got lost there for hours, mostly watching the video of this song over and over again! I don’t know who the woman is who’s singing, but she’s not one of the 2 band members. Everyone should see this video and hear this song! It should be required in school, in fact! I love it! I don’t really know just how to put it in words. Maybe everyone won’t like it, though i can’t imagine why. Watch this video and then tell me what you think, whether or not you like it. I’m very curious to know how other people perceive it. Thanks!

Lucas Black, Mmm Mmm Mmmmm!

March 22nd, 2007 by nekkid

lucasblack2.jpg
deepwater.jpg There is a movie playing on Showtime right now called Deepwater starring the guy who played the kid in Sling Blade, was in Jarhead, and The Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift, Lucas Black. This is one of those movies you have to see twice, not because it’s a great movie, but because it has fucking HOTTT Lucas Black in it, and because it’s fun to see if it makes more sense the 2nd time. (It is a very trippy movie!) Man, Lucas has a body on him! It’s really fun to watch him because he is so sexy and brooding, and because he talks exactly the same way he did in Sling Blade, only with a deeper voice!
He appears shirtless many times in this movie, and it is beautiful! He has such intensity in his face!

Dreams Are Weird!

March 16th, 2007 by nekkid

virginia_opossum.jpg

One interesting thing about being on the nicotine patch is that if you don’t take it off when you go to bed, you have quite vivid dreams that feel so real that when you wake up, it takes a few moments to realize it was just a dream.

Last night’s dream was truly bizarre. Totally not meaningful, just bizarre. So, in my dream, i was sleeping outside somewhere in the country, and i realized that there was some kind of animal walking on me. (I think it was like an opossum, but i wasn’t sure.) Anyway, it kind of freaked me out, but the creature ran away when i started to wake up, so i went back to sleep, (in my dream.) When i woke up again, (in my dream,) i noticed that i had these raised paw tracks on my skin, like i had an allergic reaction to the animal’s feet, and i could see the footprints in a trail all up and down my body where the creature had been walking. (It looked like those people in some countries who decorate their bodies with scars.)

Next in my dream, i was working in a grocery store, (which i now realize is a recurring theme in my dreams even though i’ve never worked in a grocery store!) Anyway, there was this guy working there also who had a deep voice, and a girl working there was walking with me and said to me, “Isn’t the voice of [unknown voice-over character on some TV show that doesn't actually exist but is similar to Heroes] cute?” I said, “He’s the voice of [said character]?!” “Yes!”, she said. “You didn’t know that?” As we walked, i kept running my fingers over the raised footprints that were still on my skin. Then i remembered something that was a bizarre coincidence; that i used to work at Sears with James Earl Jones, another actor with a deep voice! When i told her this, she was also amazed at the coincidence.

Then, as we were walking, a large group of women who had just walked out of their church were walking the same direction carrying banners and flags on sticks, and we sort of ended up walking in the middle of them. Slowly, the banners and flags above our heads transformed into a spaceship. (A fact which seemed only slightly strange at the time.) Then i woke up.

After waking up, i spent the next 5 minutes convinced that i really had worked with James Earl Jones before finally realizing that i hadn’t. (I did have a co-worker at Sears who had a VERY deep voice, but it was not James.)

Great Song - “The Prisoner” by Adam Crossley

March 9th, 2007 by nekkid

adam-crossley.jpg
I was watching an episode of Criminal Intent from last year and heard this hauntingly beautiful, chilling song in the opening scene and immediately had to find out what it was! I tried searching by the lyrics, but that didn’t work, so i searched by the episode title, (Blasters,) and ended up at IMDB where they were nice enough to write the following: “Trivia: The song at the beginning of this episode is “Prisoner” by Adam Crossley.” Apparently, many people had searched for this song when the episode first aired. I found Adam’s MySpace page and listened to that song like 5 times, as well as the other songs, all beautiful ballads. (”Fire Escape” should be on the radio!)
“The Prisoner” starts with moody, heart-wrenching piano, and his voice comes in, sounding remarkably like Sting, strong and clear yet tender with a gorgeous reverb. If i close my eyes, i can imagine sitting in a dark concert hall watching him on stage, all alone at the piano, with tears in my eyes. It’s an odd song in the way it was written, with it’s sparse, cryptic, repeating lyrics, but it is also incredibly brilliant! It definitely paints a picture, like a scene from a movie. It’s really ingenious, actually, because it creates a total package of something truly unique and dramatic. How did he even come up with the story for these lyrics? Had he been a prisoner, or was he inspired by something he saw or read, or does he just have a creative imagination? Whatever the case, i am inspired.
Here are the lyrics:

Prisoner writes, with out lights, half a mile underground
He’s won the hearts of the murderous thieves he can’t see, that surround
And the rain cries for him
And the chains bind to him
Like they’ll never see him again
Like they’ll never know him again
Like they’ll never hold him again
Hold him again, Love him, love him again they say
take me home….

Somebody says I could sure use some water
It’s been so long
Prisoner replies, to quench our thirst, how about a song.

Heroes Withdrawal

March 7th, 2007 by nekkid

heroes.jpg

Ok, i know it’s only been a day, but i’m very sad that i have to be without Heroes for almost 2 months!!! Episode 18 was amazing! Since i can’t possibly wait that long, i’ve decided to watch all the episodes again. Actually, it’s going to be very interesting watching it again knowing what i know now, so i can watch for any little clues that there may have been that foretell the secrets that were revealed later.I honestly don’t have any expectations or theories about what will happen in the final 5 episodes. I prefer to just watch and see the story unfold than to try to figure out what’s going to happen. I don’t think Peter dies in the next episode, but who knows. Maybe something changed the future and Sylar really does finish the job. That would be very sad, though. milo.jpgI like Peter. He’s very hottt!!! I love his hair, and i normally don’t like long hair, but his is unique because it’s kinda short in the back. I actually had that hairstyle when i was in the 10th grade, and thanks to Peter (Milo) I’ve decided to grow my hair like that again. It’s going to take a long time, though. My bangs have about 6 more inches to go.

Anyway, back to TV - Lost is also starting to get really good again, don’t you think? It’s got me very confused still, but it is getting really interesting again. I’m happy about that. I’m glad there are really good shows on right now, because American Idol is a total bust this year, i’m sorry to say. I have a feeling it’s going to stay disappointing. Oh well, there’s always next year. Hey, i’m really looking forward to The Riches. It should be really good, because Eddie Izzard and Minnie Driver are both brilliant!!! I saw Eddie Izzard’s Dress To Kill (1999) and LOVED it!!!
