Incredible New Music - Mute Math

February 24th, 2007 by nekkid

mutemath.jpg
mutemath-cd.jpg This is an incredible story in so many ways! First of all, the way Paul and i discovered this band, by watching American Idol. How often does this happen, that an American Idol contestant chooses an unknown band’s song to perform, giving the band a landslide of recognition and press that is worth its weight in platinum for an up-and-coming band that just started its new tour to promote their debut album!?

But that’s not even the best part of the story for me. For me the most intriguing thing is the story of how they got started. In this age of the internet, new bands can now burst onto the scene in a “do it yourself” fashion that we could not even dream of just 5 years ago! That’s exactly what this band did, and it is truly an inspiring story.

And like every great story, there is a thrilling twist. Their new record label tried to promote them as a christian band! What a nightmare!
I am talking about the band called Mute Math from New Orleans, LA and Springfield, MO. If you’re an American Idol fan, you should recognize the song “Typical,” (it was sung by Chris Sligh.) I LOVE their album! Apparently they also put on a very hot live show, so check out their tour dates, because they are on tour now!!!
I am also including this story under the category of Hottt, mostly because of the drummer, (the guy with the shortest hair. Mmmm, very cute!)

The Enigmatic Dash Mihok

February 23rd, 2007 by nekkid

mihokdash1_0224_jw_ss.jpg
dash-as-benvolio.jpg I have been in love with Dash Mihok since i saw Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet, in which he played Benvolio. He was the very hot tall redhead with his shirt open. It’s because of him that i have a little thing for redheads now. I also saw him in The Day After Tomorrow, The Perfect Storm, and Connie and Carla. But my favorite role of his was as Rusty in The Guru, where he played Heather Graham’s character’s massively adorable firefighter fiancee who ends up falling in love with his firefighter buddy Randy, (Bobby Cannavale.) I think the reason i am so attracted to him is because he is so unique. He has pale skin, red hair, and super bright blue eyes. His smile is just heart-melting!
Dash has been in many movies, and definitely has some big fans. He even dated Alanis Morissette in 1999. He even starred in Felicity. And yet, not only are there very few photos of him on the internet, but trying to find a good photo of him on the internet that actually looks like him is almost impossible. Especially his IMDB pic looks nothing like him! How can that be? It’s kind of bizarre to me, actually, that someone can be so gorgeous and sexy on film, but every photograph of him does him no justice. I’ve found a few small pics that come close, but none that really look the way i see him in my mind from his movie roles. (Part of the problem is, the more decent pics of him are with longer hair, and i think he looks better with really short hair.) So, what is this, some kind of non-photogenic phenomenon? And why are there so few photos of him in the first place? Is it because no one can take a good one? (Crazy, right?) The other crazy thing is that if you look at all the photos of him, it seems like you’re looking at different people. His face is like a chameleon or something.

I Love Guys Gone Wild!

February 18th, 2007 by nekkid

dvds.jpg
I watch a lot of late night TV, so i sometimes get constantly bombarded with those Girls Gone Wild commercials, and it made me decide to write about something WAY better! Guys Gone Wild. We own “Dude, Where’s My Pants,” and let me tell you, I LOVE GUYS GONE WILD!!! I also LOVE the website and the very HOTTT free video clip from Hunk Hotel, showing a hot guy with a nice dick jacking off and cumming in the shower, after showing the camera his “man pussy”!

The Cinematics Take Me Back

February 13th, 2007 by nekkid

thecinematics.jpg

the-cinematics-3.jpgI saw a video on Mtv2 that blew me away, and this is my favorite song right now!!!! The Cinematics from Glasgow, Scotland have written several songs on their debut album, (especially this one,) that have a serious 80s new wave sound that totally takes me back to my junior high days, and i love it! Their influences include The Cure, The Smiths, and Talking Heads. In that sense, they are very similar to the Killers first album, but unlike the Killers, there seems to be more variety in their songs, (at least from what i heard on MySpace.) The singer’s voice is fantastic!!!

Their debut album comes out in March around the time their tour comes to North America. They will be in San Francisco at Slim’s on April 24th.

The Cinematics “Break”

I normally do not pay attention to the lyrics when i listen to music anymore because i’m too busy taking in the sound, so generally i have no idea what a song is about even after hearing it several times. However, when i could not find the lyrics for this song on line to read, i decided to listen to the lyrics and write them down for myself. (It’s really strange, because i remember when i was younger i could sing a song after hearing it only a few times and i knew all the words.) These lyrics are very true to the 80s new wave [or mod, goth] style, and sound like words i would have written back then.

The Cinematics “Break”
I like my loneliness and the thoughts it brings
The darkness can sometimes be a pleasure to me
I stand around on the outside of it peering from the edge
Looking for the answers to the questions I’ll never ask
It’s from this place we’ll find our peace
And reconcile our bitterness
we have to, we have to break, break, break, break
wash away, wash away
it’s from this loneliness and the fear it brings
that new doors can open up and be a savior to me
so i’ll open my mind, open my heart, it’s the only way to breathe
it’s just a trick of the light, she said, so don’t panic, no don’t panic
it’s from this place we’ll find our peace
and reconcile our emptiness
we have to, we have to break, break, break, break
wash away, wash away
(it’s just a trick of the light, she says) wash away (don’t panic, don’t panic!)

What is Valentine’s Day?

February 12th, 2007 by nekkid

billy_streaking.jpeg

With this seemingly ridiculous holiday around the corner, i decided to find out what there is to it besides buying your partner or lover flowers and candy. Don’t get me wrong; Who doesn’t love getting flowers?

Wow, no wonder i never knew the history of St. Valentines Day, because it seems that almost no one knows the true history of it! According to Wikipedia, in ancient Rome there was a holiday called Lupercalia which came at the end of a 3 day fertility festival called Juno Februa, in which the names of young women were put into a vessel and drawn by young men, and whoever drew her name, she got to have sex with for the rest of the festival. Apparently, on Lupercalia,

“many of the noble youths and magistrates run up and down through the city naked for sport and laughter, striking those they meet with shaggy thongs.” - Plutarch

And apparently, it was quite an honor to get smacked with a naked boy’s “shaggy thong,” as all the women would go to the street and hold out their hands to be struck, hoping to become pregnant or have good luck with their childbirth.

Well, Pope Gelasius didn’t like all this sex play, so he abolished the festival and decided that the feast of Saint Valentine would take its place. Valentine apparently was known for secretly performing marriages despite the fact that Emperor Caudius II had banned all marriages in Rome because married men made bad soldiers. He was jailed and legend says that he fell in love with the jailer’s daughter during his incarceration. The legend says that before he was put to death, he passed a love note to her that was signed, “From your Valentine.” (Do we teach our children these lies?)
Everything after that is kind of a blur, except that in the 80’s the diamond industry began trying to turn it into a holiday for giving diamonds. Big surprise.
At any rate, i think we should do away with our current Valentines day traditions and go back to running through the streets naked, spanking people with shaggy thongs. Doesn’t that sound like much more fun? Come on, who’s with me? Hey, wait, we already have something very similar to this in San Francisco. It’s called the Folsom Street Fair, a leather and fetish fair that takes place on the last Sunday of September. It’s just as well, though. February is a little too cold here to be running around naked smacking people with our shaggy thongs, don’t you think?

Watching The 49th Annual Grammy Awards

February 12th, 2007 by nekkid

As i watched the Dixie Chicks perform “I’m Not Ready To Make Nice,” at first i got chills, and then tears in my eyes, and a tear rolled down my cheek as i watched this historical moment. I envy them for having the courage to speak out, and i feel sorry for them for having to endure the hatred of all those ignorant people. Yes, they won song of the year, record of the year, album of the year, and 2 other Grammies tonight!

Hey, who knew that Justin Timberlake could play the piano? I’m impressed.

justin-timberlake-piano-49th-grammy-awards.jpg

Fantasia Barrino, if you’re out there, why aren’t you up there winning these awards that Mary J. Blige is winning? You have the best r&b voice in the world right now, and Mary’s voice sounds like SHIT!!! Hurry up and make a good album! I need you Fantasia, Mary is making my ears bleed! Honestly, her voice is muddy and dull, and half the time she’s just not quite in tune. What does anybody see in Mary J.? I just don’t understand.

So, Amanda Ghost co-wrote James Blunt’s “You’re Beautiful”! Wow. Amanda, i’ve been waiting for you to release another album, too!

Wow, look at that! The entire upper half of Smokey Robinson’s face doesn’t move! I mean not a single muscle! Ok, that’s just creepy!!! Botox bad!

I wonder what John Legend looks like naked.

Another tear-jerker moment, the tribute to James Brown, when they brought out his cape and hung it on the microphone.

I Hate Irresponsible News

February 8th, 2007 by nekkid

I never watch the news, I hate it, and now there is yet another reason why.

kcra.jpgI’m watching E.R., and just saw a commercial advertising a program that will show potential thieves exactly how to break into your house in a whole new way, complete with pictures and full instructions. This program is the KCRA channel 3 news. They seem to think they are doing a good thing by showing you how to protect yourself, but they are also showing all you aspiring home robbers how to fulfill your dreams.

They do this stupid shit all the time, too! I’ll bet you anything that the number of home robberies involving [this method of break-in] will go up after this news broadcast, and if it does, i definitely think that channel 3 should be held partially responsible! I am hopeful that it will lead to a class action lawsuit. Anyone publishing instructions for new methods of committing crime is doing something unlawful, i don’t care who it is! They totally crossed the line between warning the public and facilitating crime, yet again!

February 8th, 2007 by nekkid

spencerhimself.jpgspencer-directing.jpgInternationally known nude photographic artist Spencer Tunick is looking for volunteers to participate in his future art works.

Imagine… getting to get naked with a bunch of other people, being in a work of art that will be seen by (who knows how many) people, and finding an excuse to travel! What could be better? I bet it would be an unforgettable experience!

Our New Aquarium

February 8th, 2007 by nekkid

p1013147.jpg
I’ve spent the last week working on our new aquarium. It used to be a marine aquarium, but the fish kept dying, so we finally gave up and decided to turn it into a freshwater tank instead. I had to empty it, clean it, clean the filter to get rid of all the salt, clean all the gravel and ornaments from an older tank, and put it all together. A lot of work, but well worth it.

It is a 55 gallon tank with a wet/dry external sump filter that sits in the cabinet below. The overflow is built into the black column in the back of the tank. It is a great filtration system, but that black column is unsightly, so i used it as an opportunity to create a dramatic “riverbank,” enhanced by the shadow created by omitting one of the lights in the hood. I used only plastic wood, and mostly plastic plants for easier maintenance. I think it looks pretty cool. We used Bio-Spira to quickly cycle the tank so we could add the fish quickly.
